Since the twins were born so early they spent a total of 12 days in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit). Hardest 12 days of my life. Very emotional and so hard to be discharged without your babies. I know I'm fortunate it was such a "short" stay compared to others, but regardless of the time, unless you've had to leave the hospital without your baby you'll never know that heartache.
Westin and Brooklynn made great progress. The first day they were off of oxygen. They had feeding tubes but started taking the bottle for half of their feedings. Westin had photo therapy for a day for jaundice. We went twice a day for visits. Once in the morning and once in the evening...I still had to recover from surgery.
