More Than You Can Handle

I have a friend. A really good friend who opened my eyes to the way I see things now and will see things in the future.

She's had a REALLY rough year and she asked me if things will ever get better. I reassured her that "God doesn't ever give you more than you can handle." She corrected me quickly with "Yes, God WILL give you more than you can handle... he just won't give you more than HE can handle."

It took me a second to wrap my brain around what she was saying. Why would God, MY God, give me more than I could handle knowing I couldn't handle it? My God isn't a mean God. He isn't discouraging. He isn't malicious. No, my God is a loving God. Gracious. Generous. Awesome.

So why?  We need to realize that sometimes we can't make it on our own.  When we acknowledge that we have been given more than we can handle and really accept this we find a promise: God is always going to meet us in the mess and in the pain. When he does, which he will, we will see our constant need to depend on him. God cares for us. When life hands you the worst of the worst, we can rest assure that God can handle it. We need to turn our will and our lives over to God.

I love the saying in my circle of friends that "God could and would if he were sought."
